If you don’t like something, if you see something you feel isn’t right, or worse- unjust- don’t just sit there behind your little computer screen. Get off your ass and do something about it.
There is no point getting all worked up about stuff you can’t change- but there are little steps that you can make today.
A couple of weeks ago, a really cool guy in a marketing seminar I attended said he wanted to reform the US prison system.
Now, he can’t do that over night. He can’t do that alone. He probably can’t do it in his lifetime.
But- he can take steps now to make a difference, even in small ways. And he is.
I’ve got a lot of friends who hold this same belief. Take responsibility for your own actions, stop being a martyr or a victim, help where you can, bring change where you can.
I’m so lucky to know these people. The friends fighting for refugees, indigenous education and health, animal welfare, domestic violence, children at risk. You guys are all fucking awesome.
You guys are the ones who make a difference.
So, for those of you who are just complaining lots and not doing much, where will you start, and more importantly, WHEN?
There are too many people who will make noise on social media about how this isn’t fair, and that’s not right, but when the time comes for them to take a formal stand, or to take action on something they are nowhere to be seen.
Don’t be that person.
If you care enough about something, make the decision today to take small steps to make it better. It might be donating $5 a month to a charity doing the hands on work you can’t. It might be donating your time. It might be donating your services. It might be writing letters and asking questions of committees and people in power.
Know what you stand for. Know what you stand stand against. Know what you care about, and fight for it.
If you don’t, who will?
